About the Journey

The Journey will begin on the morning of September 16, 2007, and will conclude approximately 4 months and 3,486.6 miles later. After a brief ceremony on the New York side of the George Washington Bridge, George Martin will walk to Hackensack University Medical Center, a major contributor and sponsor. After another brief ceremony, he will be joined by a medical technician, who will accompany him on the Journey.

From Hackensack, New Jersey, the next stop on the Journey will be Giants Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey; home of the New York Football Giants, where Mr. Martin and the Journey for 9-11 will be honored as a part of the half-time ceremony for the Giants’ season opener. All proceeds collected from game day donations will be presented during the half-time ceremony. The Journey will then proceed southward towards Washington, DC.
You will be able to track Mr. Martin’s progress throughout the Journey using GPS satellite tracking services courtesy of S&L Services. Want to see if your neighborhood or community is on the route, simply log onto the online map powered by ESRI and S&L Services, where you can even download a printed copy.

Once the Journey begins, you can return to this page for a daily chronicle, including a message from Mr. Martin as well as pictures and video footage from the prior day’s Journey.
