About the Journey

The Journey will begin on the morning of September 16, 2007, and will conclude approximately 4 months and 3,486.6 miles later. After a brief ceremony on the New York side of the George Washington Bridge, George Martin will walk to Hackensack University Medical Center, a major contributor and sponsor. After another brief ceremony, he will be joined by a medical technician, who will accompany him on the Journey.

From Hackensack, New Jersey, the next stop on the Journey will be Giants Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey; home of the New York Football Giants, where Mr. Martin and the Journey for 9-11 will be honored as a part of the half-time ceremony for the Giants’ season opener. All proceeds collected from game day donations will be presented during the half-time ceremony. The Journey will then proceed southward towards Washington, DC.
You will be able to track Mr. Martin’s progress throughout the Journey using GPS satellite tracking services courtesy of S&L Services. Want to see if your neighborhood or community is on the route, simply log onto the online map powered by ESRI and S&L Services, where you can even download a printed copy.

Once the Journey begins, you can return to this page for a daily chronicle, including a message from Mr. Martin as well as pictures and video footage from the prior day’s Journey.

When will the daily reports start? Will you include photos and video footage? The route map from Fairleigh Dickenson University and ESRI looks great!

Mr. Martin,
Jason and I wish we could have been there to walk the GWB, but we were away. We will be there for your return. In the meantime, the school I work at is going to do a campus-wide fundraiser! I really hope you can come talk to our students once you get back. Thanks for taking on such a worthwhile cause. You're an inspiration, and your journey is a great character education tool.
Much love,

Hi George,
I saw you two days on RTE 29S in Madison & Ruckersville, Va. I had no clue as to who you were or why you were walking the highway. I just took a mental note on such a great looking pair of legs walking the road. I couldn't say it aloud, beacuse my husband was in the car, lol. What you are doing is commendable & so unselfish. My prayes & best wishes are extended to you as you travel your journey.
May God bless & keep you.

Go George Go,

We were watching your back yesterday in Bedford County on Rt. 460. Keep up the good work and helping others in their time of need. You could have stopped at the Bedford Moose Lodge for a free hot dog and drink at our Family Fun and Safety Day.

I think what you are doing is great , but if you stop to help with a community service and there is a group of children doing most of the work, HEY lets make sure they get some praise for what they are doing too. Do not steal all the star light from them, because most children would rather spend their day off from school at home playing video games or spending time with their friends, so lets praise all who care to help others. Remember to stop and thank the children that make you look good!
